José D. Díaz Albelo, MD, MHA

José completed his Family Medicine residency at Mayagüez Medical Center in Puerto Rico, where he served as Chief Resident. Originally from Puerto Rico, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, attended medical school at Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, and later completed a Master’s in Health Administration. Prior to Family Medicine, he completed a preliminary year in General Surgery at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and worked as a Primary Care Physician in Florida with urgent care responsibilities. His professional interests include emergency systems development, wilderness and disaster medicine, travel, and leadership in community-based care.

As a Wilderness Medicine Fellow, he is excited to expand his skills in backcountry and expedition medicine while pursuing his Diploma in Dive Medicine and Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM). He looks forward to integrating wilderness medicine into Family Medicine practice, emergency preparedness, and community resilience. Outside of medicine, José enjoys spending time with his wife and new baby girl, traveling, photography, DIY projects, cooking, beach days, diving, and outdoor adventures with his family.
