Jimmy Scheidler MD FACEP FAEMS

Jimmy is a native of Almost Heaven, West Virginia. He grew up in the woods participating in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and mountain biking. He attended West Virginia University (WVU) for undergrad and medical school where he volunteered as a call out qualified rescue team member for the Mountaineer Area Rescue Group. Dr. Scheidler completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2020 where he served as chief resident. In 2021, he completed a fellowship in EMS and Disaster Medicine at Wake Forest where was able to participate in the Carolina Wilderness EMS Seminar and off-road driving school.
Since 2021, Jimmy has worked as faculty at WVU in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Prehospital Medicine. He serves as an EMS physician in the WVU EMS Physicians Group, the first and only physician-based EMS agency in the state of WV. He is also the medical director for WV OEMS Region 5, WVU Medical Command, and multiple local 911 agencies. Through this time, Jimmy has assisted in re-writing the WV 911 EMS protocols, building local and statewide quality assurance programs, serving on the committee to write WV OEMS wilderness medicine & prolonged field care guidelines, and helped bring the United States first statewide protocol for whole blood transfusion in the 911 system to WV.
Jimmy is a FAWM candidate and has served as the faculty sponsor for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 meetings of the Southeastern Student Wilderness Medicine Conference and has also enjoyed teaching at the annual EMS updates for the US Forest Service in addition to the national wilderness medicine student elective. When not at work, you will find Dr. Scheidler spending time with his wife and three sons. He loves going on adventures with his family – especially in their beautiful home state of WV.
