Rich is an Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner and a Paramedic working at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia. His career is built on a fusion of emergency medicine and a passion for extreme environments. He is a graduate of Carilion Clinic's Advanced Clinical Practitioner Emergency Medicine and Wilderness Medicine Fellowships and has earned the Wilderness Medical Society’s Diploma in Mountain Medicine (DiMM) and Fellow in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM).

His professional life is a rare blend of medicine and high-stakes adventure. For 18 years, he worked as a professional outdoor adventure photographer, capturing his expeditions across four continents for top outdoor companies. His work is built upon his own demanding experience as a firefighter paramedic, backcountry ranger, ski patroller, river guide in Nepal, and as a medical instructor.
